any clues what motor/ year/ model car it was from?
Chris,
Although it was all apart, I did get a 68 455 block and a set of BV
C's with the crank.
==================
C's says '68-69 with a 455.
I can only assume that the crank came in that block, but I
don't know what the engine came from.
===================
Let's investigate
BEFORE you clean it up
clues like motor mount location [Big Car differs]
block drain location
etc.
Heads still have the gold Crane roller rockers attached too.
=====================
HP to spare.
Funny thing about this deal is the crank wasn't even
on the list of parts the guy gave me, and I think he forgot he had it.
When
I looked at the stuff I asked him if he had a crank and then he remembered
that he had one stuck in the corner. We pulled it out and it was a rush
because I saw the check mark looking notch in the rear flange, so I knew it
was
a forged unit. Just didn't know if it was a 455 until I get the part
number
from you and Milton.
======================
I thought we had spread the word near and far that the roundness of the
corner of the notch was all the clue you needed.
"L" = 425 or 330 forged, or a few 350 Nodulars.
"J" = 455 Forged [or pre-'65 Olds like 394... shame on you if you make that
error]
It wasn't really stored properly, and has some rust on it
in places. I'm going to take it down to the crank shop on Monday and have
them mag it and check it out to see if it will clean up with just a micro
polish.

Congrats!
Is your "celestial orifice all engorged and tingly" still?
