The trick is to either cut a piece of rubber hose and butt the ends together and place it on top of the air filter. Then with a longer center carb stud, attach the air cleaner top, which is now spaced upward an inch or so. The second way is to find another air filter element that is an inch or two taller than the stock element, which will place the air cleaner top above the base.
