Subject: Caring for a stored engine?
All,
Hrm, well, while the 455 has been out of the donor vehicle for about a year
[snip]
What else should I do? The upper radiator hose is off, so the outlet's
just open there. The exhaust manifolds are still on but otherwise not
blocked off or anything. I want to make sure that the thing doesn't lock
up, get rusty inside, or otherwise do anything that will prove problematic
because this may be sitting for a while.
Thanks in advance.
========================
I prefer metal tape over duct tape. REAL 'duct' tape, if you prefer. Like
thick AL foil with sticky back. Usefulf for keeping weather out of the parts
cars too. For long term storage on a motor that matters, I like to remove
rocker covers and loosen ALL the rockers until all valves are shut, then the
cyls are sealed and condensation will not be so bad.
Oil the cyl's with thick oil if at all possible, and spin the motor to
distribute the oil.
tape off openings to the crankcase, and to a lesser degree the water jacket.
Keep mice out.
