I am running it in Firefox-1.5 with FC-5. All I needed to do was go to
site, and click run.

Mark is still the exception here.

 To make sure I wasnt missing something.. I
changed some code to make the tree go all wonky.

Now I just want my turtle.. or a penguin in this case.

Well, we will put in sprite costumes, including a turtle, pretty soon. Penquins are tough to read when looked at from above, but I guess the beak would indicate direction.

I dont think the ideas are too off, but the language might need some
"updating". I couldnt remember what fd and some of the other
declaratives were.

In a day or so, this wiki will have a format more designed to write explanations, etc. We will expand the "About Logo" section into a little Logo tutorial.

Meanwhile you can use either one of these:
fd = forward
bk = back
rt = right
lt = left
...

etc. The abbreviations are a hangover from when kids had to type (as they currently do here). This is why we put in drag and drop tile programming in Squeak Etoys ... it allows quick construction of scripts and retains readability by keeping the longer forms visible. We will do that in the LogoWiki over the next month or so if JavaScript and the DOM are up to it.

The next set of primitives we will add (about half of them are in) are for manipulating strings and lists, so two simple kid written function definitions will allow a kid to type:

             [histay isyay igpay atinlay]

Alan
