FWIW, urpmi isn't too bad compared to alternatives
(1st hand personal experience).

Another 1st hand personal experience: I've
seen zypper destroy a VM erasing packages
when I typed a ^C at the wrong point in time.

Better the devil you know imho.

Meanwhile urpmi MUST be ported to other linux
(and non-linux) systems for its own survival.

Not just Mageia wither ...
