Robert, i do not see anything specific in tha build log. Could you please run 
systemd in debug mode inside your VM?

Looking on that log it is hard to judge your problem is related to systemd.

I'm no longer thinking this is isolated; I just tried this from my
cooker VM trying to build an ISO: and the build.log just dies halfway
through. The whole VM freezes - I can't do anything but hard reset the
VM. build.log is attached, urpmi is run in --debug mode.
