Hi Luca,
I have installed the latests iso on two different x86_64 machines. The system
journal one of these installs showed plymouth segfaulting the other had no
issue. The problem machine used AMD processors. The Intel machine showed no
problem.
I also fully updated a i586 install via the repos (you have to install perl-
URPM as a download to get the repos to work as the kernel provides from the
hdlist overflow the buffers on the installed one)
The range of graphics were intel and AMD/ATI I have not yet tried nVidia and
it's possible that that is the common factor. In every case I used the
opensource drivers. I did not need to install an older version of plymouth.
In each case the procedure was to install the new theme to the appropriate
directory, install plymouth-two-step, modify plymouthd.conf to call the new
theme and then to rebuild initrd with 'dracut -f'.
Just to be sure that I have tested absolutely everything I will install an
nVidia graphics card in the most problematic machine and see if I can get a
segfault, though I do feel that my testing had been sufficiently thorough to
justify my comment particularly since the 3.15.10 kernel fixed a machine which
was constantly segfaulting in KDE.
Watch this space.
Best,
Colin
