Ho!

As I've written earlier, there's still several repos that's far more up to
date and well maintained in software/ that's yet to merge the repos under
omv_software/ and some final adaptation of required in order to update the
packages in cooker with.

DrakX, and pretty much all of the other distro specific tools has been
actively maintained and developed, while staying in sync with Mageia
changes tracked from Mageia repos.
So this means a lot of new developments, fixes, improvements and what not,
where for instance all of the software has been ported to Gtk3 long time
ago, while the versions of these tools in cooker still being based on
ancient versions that's nased on whatever was in the repos when repos got
forked to omv_software/ and I in response made my repos nearly two years
ago.
So these toools in cooker hasn't received more than just the minimal amount
of maintenance required since, missing out on all changes from the repos
that's been actively maintained / & developed since, being in bad need of
updates to.

As there's a feature freeze in process, I'm wondering whether people would
want me to update these tools, or leave them as-is?

I'd think that people would find it acceptable to get these tools updated
to more recent code, with all the benefits that comes along, while it would
make one look less stupid by no longer shipping severely outdated software
that ie. Mageia has provided their newest developments of through their
releases.

As I actively work on these tools and have good overview and insight on the
code and what not related to, I also think that it would make it far more
easy to deal with any bugs, feature requests etc. that I then could deal
with (I'm not willing to debug and work on obsolete and ancient code for
the tools that I have recent versions available for and willing to hack on).
So in conclusion, the tools should receive more attention and therefore any
potential bugs with far quicker and easilier fixed than those based on code
in omv_software/ repos, making the update to in not just a matter of new
functionality and what not, but also about better maintained and less
issues as they'll receive more attention with any issues much more
efficiently being fixed properly.

Update of DrakX and friends will also be required in order to use my very
easy and *very* fas iso generator for classical installer images, which
I'll be packaging and make more easily available with some documentation on
usage following.
I also plan on looking at draklive and having it brought up to more recent
version, merging changes from Mageia, while also make it compatible with
and using the same code as the DrakX installer does,. This should make it
easier to develop and maintain, especially for myself which then would be
willing to work on and enhance it.

For any potential breakages and bugs caused by this task, I'm perfectly
able to deal with them, figuring and fixing them very quickly as they get
reported since I know and understand the coddebase quite well, not to
mention that for bugs not being exclusive to my branch only, but also found
in Mageia, I'll be easily able to just pick up their efforts right away,
which should improve the quality further quite a lot more (especially
considering that they've been doing a better job at actively developing all
of these tools, with more people working on them and their knowledge of
usually being superiour to ours as they have ie. Thierry Vignaud, one of
the main authrs, actively working on them).

Any thoughts, objectios, questions, approval or anything people might have
on their mind on this? :)

Unless rejected, I will get around to this task much sooner and get the job
done more efficiently than from what I've done with otther repos so far,
not pushing the task to be performed much more "later" than what I've said
about in the past.
