While I'm not opposed to giving it a try at all, could giving it a try be
done in some separate, dedicated personal repo?

This way you'd be able to give it a try to every extent possible without
interfering with cooker, while also avoiding the scenario of just having to
stick with something suboptimal just because it's already introduced, too
much work has been invested and it ends being too late to turn around...
