Ben,
I think this change was made so we could build a server version OM for abf. I 
guess there may have to be some clever stuff in the kernel install scripts that 
detects whether you install a server kernel and installs the additional 
packages before running dracut with options to use dmraid and if I remember 
correctly lvm as well.
Might be an idea to file a bug so this doesn't get forgotten.
