Hi Who-ever-you-are, you did not mention for which monitoring core you need this, but for Nagios the variable (usable in host or service definitions) is "notification_interval".
If you'd set "notification_interval = 120" notifications are sent every 2 hours until the problem is fixed, acknowledged or in downtime.
