I can confirm that OmniOS works fine on the HP G8. The only gotcha is that if you want to use the HBA in non-RAID mode (which you do :-) AND you want to install an SSD in place of the DVD, then you will not be able to boot off said SSD. This is a stupid design limitation. I am working on a fix but am not finished yet. I expect to have something in early December.
