He was born at Hershey, PA, on December 28, 1976. Potts Graduated from the University of Michigan in 2000. While at Michigan, he swam for the University of Michigan swim team from 1995-99, serving as team captain in 1998-99. Potts was a six-time NCAA All-American swimmer while at Michigan and a two-time Big 10 individual champion. He was also a member of the Michigan track team in 1999-2000. During that time, he was featured on some of the predecessors of this group. Potts won the 2007 Ironman 70.3 World Champion in Clearwater, Florida in a time of 3:42:33. In 2009, Potts placed first in the St. Anthony's Triathlon, Wildflower Triathlon, Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, Whirlpool Ironman 70.3 Steelhead and the Timberman Ironman 70.3.
