As you all know, I had an accident this weekend and my left arm is in a sling. Here's how it happened: I rescue dogs, mostly cocker spaniels. Right now, we have two, a little black one named Jack who has a lot of terrier in him so he's a bundle of energy, and a buff one name Dusty who looks as though he was raised on 'ludes. Dusty was raised as a stud in a puppy mill and kept in a crate for the first five years of his life. No one knows Jack's history because he was abandoned on someone's doorstep. Jack actually taught Dusty how to be a dog. Dusty couldn't even run until he met Jack. But Jack is a powerhouse and truly thinks that it is his sole function to protect the world from Killer Ninja Mutant Squirrels. He's even figured out that they climb trees and don't just disappear (every dog I've ever had thinks they just disappear.) So Sunday morning 'round 9, Jack asked to go out on patrol. We have a retractable leash for him and he's used to running to the end of it. He saw one of the killer squirrels even before he was out the door and took off like a bullet. The leash was still in my left hand, my non-dominant side, and the angle that he ran, he slammed my arm against the corner of the doorway while I was totally off balance. X-ray showed a chip in the ulna which will heal over time. I have to keep my arm bandaged for a while, and keep it immoblized in a sling for at least two weeks. I'm slowly getting back into typing with my left hand, but it's slow going. And I have to stop a lot to rest the muscles, etc. And yes, Jack is still with us, and still has no idea why I yelled at him.
