Saturday Sport:
In Australia, this is the last weekend of theAustralian Open of Tennis, which 
has proven itself, once again, to be one ofthe most exciting Grand Slam 
contests year to year.  Sometimes stormy Sisters Serena and VenusWilliams will 
play each other in the Australian Open finals today.  No wire rackets.  Ever.  
Nadalmuscled his way into tomorrow's men's finals with wins while you 
weresleeping.  
Winter Sports continue their big competitions today.  In Ostrava, Czech 
Republic, the EuropeanFigure Skating Championships are being held today with 
the  Free Dance Competition.   FISWorld Cup Skiing  men's downhill contestswill 
be broadcast from Garmisch, Germany. In the United States: the Extreme Sports 
Winter X Games 20 are beingheld this week at Apsen, Colorado.  Day 2of the 
action included freestyle skiing (men's Superpipe) and snowboarding(men's Big 
Air).  Day 3  of the action-sports festival will include freestyleskiing (men's 
slopestyle) and snowmobiling (freestyle).
Golf never seems to be out of season.  Third-round play in the Farmers 
InsuranceOpen at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Cal. First contested in 
1952 asthe San Diego Open, this tournament was known as the Buick Invitational 
from1992 until 2009. In Qatar:  Third-roundplay in the Qatar Masters in Doha 
will be held. This is part of the  European Golf Tour.  
In the United States:  In NCAA Basketball, the Notre Dame FightingIrish travel 
to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.  Irish juniors Bonzie Colson and Martinas 
Gebenmuscle inside with Tech big man Ben Lammers in ACC play in Atlanta.  Last 
year in South Bend, the Irish lost byeight.  DePaul leaves Chicago to travelto 
Creighton. The Blue Demons got 32 points from guard Eli Cain in their lastgame, 
a loss to Butler. 7th ranked Creighton dropped their first game withoutMo 
Watson last Saturday to Marquette 102-94, the first time since a 2OT 2008game 
against Peoria's Bradley University when an opponent has gotten 100 pointson 
them.  Marquette went on to beat topranked Villanova on Tuesday, yet remains 
unranked. In Track and Field:  U.S. New Balance Indoor Games in Boston.Entrants 
include Olympic gold medalists Matthew Centrowitz, Jenn Suhr andEkaterini 
Stefanídi.
In horse racing, the inaugural $12 million PegasusWorld Cup at Gulfstream Park 
takes place in Hallandale, Florida. Impressivesteeds Arrogate and California 
Chrome, 1-2 in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Classic,head the expected field in what 
becomes the world's richest race, surpassingthe Dubai World Cup.
In French La Ligue play today, Lyon meets  Lille, Angers meets Metz , AS 
NancyLorraine meets Bordeaux, Bastia meets Caen, Lorient meets Dijon FCO, and 
Stade Rennes meets Nantes.  Paris Saint-Germain's ultras havethreatened to 
boycott Sunday's massive Ligue 1 game against AS Monaco becauseof ongoing 
problems with access to the Parc des Princes. Many of thesesuperfans are either 
banned altogether (sacre bleu) or given only restrictedaccess to certain parts 
of the stadium.
