Ja, vi elsker dette landet, som det stiger frem, furet, værbitt over vannet, med de tusen hjem, — The Norwegian National Anthem has been playeddozens of times during the medal ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Olympics of PyeongChang,as they have practically controlled the games, winning more medals than anyother country. As the Games wrap uptomorrow, it seems that their lead is invicible. This is unsurprising, you might say, as theyhold the record of all medals won in Winter Olympics.
Although Katie Couric might tell you becausethis is because Norwegians are born with skis on, this isn't really true, justan appreciative point of reference in this Winter mad country. Behind Norway, there's a bitter battlebetween Canada and Germany for second place. The Canadians jumped in front ofthe Germans on Friday by winning three medals, including gold and silver in thewomen's freestyle skiing ski cross big final, but they missed out on a huge andexpected chance at a podium finish in curling, where the men's team wassurprisingly swept off by Switzerland in the bronze medal match. Germany, meanwhile, earned a bronze in the men's biathlon relay, but the bigger prizecame in hockey, where the men's team denied Canada a spot in the final in anupset win and will play the Olympic Athletes from Russia for the gold. My present medal standings are: 1 Norway 2 Canada 3 Germany 4 USA 5 Netherlands 6 France Hosts Korea, along with Sweden, Switzerland,Russia, and Austria may very well finish in the top ten, but Norway will remainin first place. Most of the TV coverageSunday will be replays, with a replay of the closing ceremonies, no doubt, inthe evening. Hasta la vista Olympics,we'll miss you for four years, but will use the photos for decades... -- Posted By Rex to SR at 2/25/2018 12:26:00 AM -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "omnisport" group.
