Both of my mother's parents were born in Norway a long time ago. They experienced Ellis Island which was the norm for legitimate arrivals then (more than 100 years ago). If my understanding is correct, people on the "left" want to have open borders to anyone desiring to live in the U.S. I don't think this is the intent of the U.S. immigration system.
