The NFL regular season begins in September, and endstomorrow. The time seems so
short, even for fans of mediocre teams.  The last Sunday of December spells the
end ofthe road for many teams and fans, but gives hopes to others who look
ahead tothe playoffs.  After 16 weeks offootball, we've finally reached the end
of the NFL regular season. This Sundaywill mark the final full slate of NFL
games until next year, making it abittersweet day for football aficionados.
While it's difficult to say goodbye to our Sunday's full of football,Week 17
always provides some intriguing matchups,  as teams can often differ wildly in
theirmotivations heading into the final game of the year.

The game of the day has to be the Indianapolis Colts vs.Tennessee Titans
showdown, at the Titans home field in Nashville. This game hasbeen moved to
“Sunday Night Football,” which is a sure sign of the generalinterest of
Football fans throughout the country.   If theHouston Texans lose to the
Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the day, theColts-Titans game will be for the
AFC South title. Otherwise, the winner willget the No. 6 seed. Whoever loses
the game will be eliminated from playoffshopes.

The Cleveland  Brownsvs. Baltimore Ravens game in Baltimore should be
interesting.  The Browns have been eliminated from playoffcontention, but the
game has two of the NFL’s teams who have been on great funto watch, and who
have been winning.  Thegame features two of the NFL’s budding star
quarterbacks, the chance for theRavens to clinch a playoff spot, and a chance
for the Browns to ruin their rivals’season. The Ravens can clinch the AFC North
with a win, but could miss theplayoffs altogether with a loss and a Steelers
win.

At the end of the day, as in any game day, there will bewinners and losers,
teams advancing tothe playoffs, and others caught up, already, by the doldrums
of the offseason.  In this pause between  a so far mediocre college bowl
season, beforethe real Bowl rivalries hopefully scorch the screen tomorrow,
enjoy the lastday of the NFL.
