In the USA today, professional football comes to a head, withthe Conference championships. Thewinners of the two games today will meet in the Super Bowl in two weeks, bringing a quick end to this year's American Football Season which began inAugust at the High School Level, and September in the pros. In the AFC Conference Championship, the first game of theday, the 11-7 Tennessee Titans travel to the 13-4 Kansas City Chiefs. In the second game of the day, the NFCConference Championship, the 14-3 Green Bay Packers travel to the warmer climesof the also 14-3 San Francisco49ers. The Chiefs, Packers, 49ers and Titans are all hoping to snapSuper Bowl droughts in Sunday's AFC and NFC championship games. The 49ers andChiefs are heavy favorites, but at this point in the season, you can throw outthe records. No one would be shocked if the Packers or Titans pull off anupset. The New York Post, for instance, has just called the game for the Titans against the Chiefs. These teams have combined for 14 Super Bowl appearances andfared well in their previous matchups, winning 10 Vince Lombardi trophies asvictors in the big game. Tennessee is one of 12 NFL teams that has never won aSuper Bowl. They have logged one SuperBowl appearance in team history, but that history is much shorter as befits anexpansion franchise. Other teams whohave never been to the Super Bowl include the Bengals, Bills, Browns,Cardinals, Chargers, Falcons, Jaguars, Lions, Panthers, Texans, Titans andVikings. Four NFL teams have neverappeared in the Super Bowl. Theseinclude the Browns, Lions, Jaguars, andTexans. The Lions and Browns both won championships prior to the NFL merger in1966, but even then the Super Bowl was not today's Super Bowl... Jacksonville and Houston have only beenaround since 1995 and 2002, respectively, and are the league's two newestexpansion teams. Today's contests should be hard fought and provide plenty ofFootball action to a country frosty from the latest round of Winter weather. In the English Premier League of Association Football(Soccer) there has been a constant revision of traditional tem strengths overthe last several seasons. That actioncontinues currently, in this year's action. Liverpool is the strong leader this season with 64 points, atthis point in the season far and away leading the next contenders, Manchester City, with 48 points. Leicester City is in third with 45 points. Rounding out the top 4, in other words thosewho have of a Champions League post for next season, is Chelsea, with 39points. Manchester United, a bit down ontheir luck, is at least fifth on the table, with 34 points, tied in totalnumber of points with the Wolverhampton Wanderers. At the bottom of the table, at this point facing relegation, are three teams. These teams include Aston Villa and Norwich City, andshockingly Bournemouth, who had been somewhat more successful in previousseasons.
