So much sports today.  With old seasons wrapping up, new seasons starting, and
some seasons continuing.

This weekend the English Premier League of Association Football begins its new
season, having wrapped up the old, it seems, just a few weeks ago.  In Today's
action Crystal Palace plays Southampton at Selhurst. The Saints have won their
league fixture at the Crystal Palace in each of the last three campaigns,
including going 2-0 last season.  Fulham also hosts Arsenal at Craven Cottage
today.  The Gunners are heavy favorites.  They have not lost against Fulham in
many years.  Mikel Arteta played in Arsenal's most recent league defeat against
the Cottagers, a 2-1 away loss on Jan. 2, 2012.  Later today Liverpool hosts
Leeds United at Anfield.  The Reds secured their 19th top flight title in
2019-2020, but previously had finished second in each of the previous four
campaigns.

Today's Canadian Premier League Soccer features the "Island Games."  No, these
will not be on some tropical isles.  Instead, Pacific FC will meet up with
Forge FC at the UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward
Island.  Anne of Green Gables will NOT be in attendance.

In the United States, NCAA Division One College Football has a reduced but
still full lineup today.  Kansas State begins its season by hosting Arkansas
State. The Red Wolves lost their opener 37-24 to Memphis. Chris Klieman guided
the Wildcats to an 8-5 record, capped by a loss to Navy in the Liberty Bowl, in
his first season as coach in 2019.  Meanwhile, the Iowa State Cyclones will
play Louisiana State.  Junior quarterback Brock Purdy leads the Cyclones in
their open against the Ragin' Cajuns. Purdy threw for 3,982 yards and 27
touchdowns in 2019 to help Iowa State record its third consecutive winning
season, a feat last accomplished from 1976-78.  No. 1 Clemson begins its quest
for a third straight title-game berth when it visits Wake Forest. The Tigers
had plans for a second consecutive championship, but last week Clemson fell
42-25 to Louisiana State in New Orleans, leaving their season's "success" all
the more uncertain. Wake Forest ended the last campaign at 8-5.

Meanwhile, the Big 10 Conference, seems to be a bit of a division 1 isolate in
cancelling their Autumn seasons this year.  Conference members have  also lost
out big on the revenue generated by College Football.  Leading to a big budget
crunch, they are now eliminating so many men's sports it makes the head spin.
Radical feminists at Iowa, in the conference and at NCAA headquarters no doubt
are dancing in their alleys.  No more men's tennis, no more men's swimming and
diving, even some women's sports have been eliminated.  So much has been lain
waste throughout the entire Big 10.

Today the Tour de France continues, with Stage 14 or 22. This is a flat stage
from Clermont-Ferrand to Lyon, a medium distance of 197 kilometers.  So far,
the COVID protocols seems to be working, as set forth by the governing
authority. The only one in trouble with Coronavirus so far has been race
director Chrisitan Prudhomme, who either got the sickness from the President of
France, or gave it to him, as the two rode together in the lead car last
Saturday.  Godspeed, riders.

In Canada and the United States of America, the National Hockey League Stanley
Cup playoffs continue for last Winter's season.  The Dallas Stars and the Las
Vegas Golden Knights play Game 4 of their Western Conference final.  Dallas so
far leads the series 2-1. Alexander Radulov scored 31 seconds into overtime to
deliver the Stars a 3-2 victory in Game 4. Anton Khudobin of Dallas made 38
saves in the win.

So many other sports, some of which we will cover tomorrow in this same space.
Until then.
