I ended up booting the original install opensolaris BE, destroying the
other BEs and running:

~/bin/onu -d 
/net/train.sfbay.sun.com/builds/willf/hg/sparc/onnv-bugs/packages/sparc/nightly 
-t pkinit-bug-bits

and it worked properly with my nightly bits installed in the new BE so I
do not know what happened when I ran onu while runninng the
pkinit-bug-bits BE.  If I see this again I'll report it.
