Dear all,

As you probably know usage of NodePorts has been considered only a
temporary solution since very beginning. That's why we started working
on introduction of ingress controller in order to be able to drop most
of the Node Ports.

We started our work by evaluating nginx[1] and istio ingress
controllers[2]. Unfortunately it turns out that istio is not starting
correctly with some of the components so we decided to go with nginx for
now but keep our template[3] as abstract as possible to enable easy
transition to other ingress controller in a future.

Our goal is to introduce ingress controller in a non intrusive way. This
means that we will start by introducing ingress controller for all
services next to the node ports. Then the transition period when both
NodePorts and Ingress Controller are available begins. We would like to
ask you to stop communicating via NodePorts and use ingress controller.
After this period all NodePorts that expose HTTP or HTTPS should be
removed from ONAP and only NodePorts that expose some custom protocol
should be left.

Feel free to reach us if you have any questions or would like to join
our effort or test start playing with ingress controller in your project.
