CCSDK users,

As most of you probably know, we created our elalto branches for CCSDK a few
weeks ago, and our master branch is now set up for Frankfurt.

We have been planning for some time to change how we create our OpenDaylight
base docker containers. Currently, we create that container based on the
tarball distributed by OpenDaylight , in their maven artifact
org.opendaylight.integration/karaf. This method is straightforward, but
includes components within OpenDaylight that we have no need for – some of
which depend on third party libraries with known security vulnerabilities.
After discussions with the OpenDaylight community, we agreed that it made more
sense for ONAP to create its own OpenDaylight distribution, constructed using
the same means that OpenDaylight uses to create their tarball, but only
containing the modules that we need.

We have had the code in place to create such a distribution since early in El
Alto, thanks to the kind offices of Alexis de Talhouet. However, since we were
delayed in installing the Neon port, we did not want to risk changing our
distribution methodology as well in El Alto and instead deferred that work to
Frankfurt.

I plan to merge a Gerrit review later today that will introduce this new method
of producing the container in the master (Frankfurt) branch. This will NOT
change anything in El Alto – it will only apply to the Frankfurt branch. Since
this change is the sort of thing that could cause some instability (e.g. if we
find that we missed some components), I wanted to give the team a heads up that
this change is coming. Since we haven’t “officially” started Frankfurt
development, this seemed to be an ideal time to make this change.

If all goes as planned, you should see no impact from this change. If you do
have any problems after this change, please feel free to reach out to me either
in email ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>) or on Rocket Chat so that
I can resolve the issue for you.

Thanks!
Dan
