Strong northwest winds weakening slightly as the day went on. Temperatures in the mid-30s. Count conducted from the South Lookout. Raptor Observations: Mostly a light flow of Turkey Vultures with 478 total for the day. Small numbers of other expected migrants. Red-tails were next most numerous with 14 including a 'northern'. One adult red-shoulder. A few Accips. Some harriers including nice looks at some hunting. I did not see the kestrels today. Predictions: TOMORROW: Cloudy with rain late in the day. High 43F. Winds ESE at 10-20mph. A nice headwind that should keep the birds low. Might not be as much volume if conditions aren't enough to get the bigger raptors up, but I would expect it to be a steady flight. Expect moderate to good migration. THURSDAY: Morning showers then partly cloudy. High 66F. Winds SSW at 10-20mph. Good winds again. The flight will depend on the rain but it seems like conditions will clear up nicely for the afternoon. Expect moderate to good migration. FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. High near 45F. Winds WNW at 10-15mph. South lookout. Expect moderate migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown ([email protected] ) Derby Hill Bird Observatory information may be found at: http://onondagaaudubon.com/derby-hill-bird-observatory/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=358 -- New postings to the entire list: [email protected] Subscription configuration instructions: https://it.cornell.edu/lyris/basic-e-list-member-tasks Listowner contact: [email protected] Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html
