The early flight line was overhead, but later in the day the flight was mainly more inland. A moderate migration of most other expected raptors. Around 300 Turkey Vultures. Three GOLDEN EAGLES came through together in the midday giving distant looks. A steady flow of sharpies. Nine red-shoulders was notable for this date. A lot of Bald Eagles with 28 migrants. Derby Hill 2025 Daily Summary Videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB8baxseGlb44fA7Uio0ifcrbLjT2-GE7 Non-raptor Observations: North Lookout (morning): 2 Brown Creepers, Palm Warbler, 8 Yellow-rumped Warblers. https://ebird.org/checklist/S228469430 South Lookout: 3 Killdeer, 4 Common Loons, 3 Northern Rough-winged Swallows, 2 Purple Finches, 3 Savannah Sparrows. https://ebird.org/checklist/S228664921 No new species for season. Predictions: TOMORROW: Intervals of clouds and sun. High around 70F. Winds SE at 5-10mph shifting to a NW lake breeze for the afternoon. Overnight non-raptor migration should be good and there could be an excellent morning flight. Winds are favorable for raptor migration in the morning with a great direction, but weaker than would be ideal. A shift to a lake breeze in the afternoon may send us down to the south lookout. Overall it should be a really nice day of birding. Broad-winged Hawk numbers will mostly depend upon supply. We have certainly had plenty the last few days as we are in peak migration. Expect moderate to good migration. FRIDAY: Partly cloudy then overcast. High 73F. Winds light and variable. Should be another good day of birding. Maybe slightly less favorable for hawks with the light winds, and we will probably end up at the south lookout when the lake breeze kicks in. Expect moderate migration. SATURDAY: A steady rain in the morning then showers in the afternoon. High 58F. Winds S shifting W at 15-25mph. An improving forecast, but currently projected to be too rainy. A day with potential to keep an eye on. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown ([email protected] ) Derby Hill Bird Observatory information may be found at: http://onondagaaudubon.com/derby-hill-bird-observatory/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=358 -- New postings to the entire list: [email protected] Subscription configuration instructions: https://it.cornell.edu/lyris/basic-e-list-member-tasks Listowner contact: [email protected] Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html
