Moderate to strong winds starting northeasterly, shifting northerly, and then westerly for the last hour. A pleasant day when out of the wind. Raptor Observations: A steady Turkey Vulture flight with over a hundred fifty. The only other migrants were four Bald Eagles and an Osprey. A few local red-tails and Cooper's Hawks plus the local kestrel. Derby Hill 2026 Daily Summary Videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB8baxseGlb6YYCLHXEKtIckpJtq1srVm Non-raptor Observations: North Lookout (morning birding): Yellow-throated Vireo, Veery, 2 Blackpoll Warblers. https://ebird.org/checklist/S349351199 South Lookout: 3 Killdeer, 2 Great Blue Herons, 10 Cedar Waxwings. https://ebird.org/checklist/S349729749 No new species for season. At 2:05pm a fireball was seen just to the left of the cell phone tower (ESE) heading straight down (directly away from us). A loud boom was heard throughout Massachusetts and surrounding states. In a coincidence a U.S. Navy Boeing E-6B Mercury 'Doomsday Plane" later flew over. Predictions: TOMORROW: Last day of the count. Partly cloudy becoming cloudy. High 66F. Winds W at 5-10mph. Probably South Lookout. It is looking like a pleasant day to end on. I would expect light to moderate migration for the morning, though it may slow down as the clouds move in for the afternoon. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown ([email protected] ) Derby Hill Bird Observatory information may be found at: http://onondagaaudubon.com/derby-hill-bird-observatory/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=358 Count data submitted via Trektellen.org - Project info at: https://trektellen.org/count/view/3860/20260530 -- Oneidabirds-L List Info: Visit: http://LISTS.cornell.edu for more information Posting Address: [email protected] Sightings: Please submit your observations to eBird at http://www.ebird.org. --
