[Winona Online Democracy]
I believe Ed Thompson did a good job of addressing the use of "good" used
computer equipment. In the process of the technology referendum last year,
there was much discussion on good used pc's, for the school district as well
as selected cyber kiosks around town. When the referendum went down, the
discussion died to a whisper. I am all for rejuvenating the dialog but this
equipment needs to be made available to EVERYONE. It has to be accessible
to the public, i.e. workplace, library, the mall, etc. We can put all the
latest equipment in the schools and if the families do not have access in
some form, we will not have served the purpose. In a nutshell, we would
need to focus on the "havenots" first not upgrading what the rest have.
