[Winona Online Democracy] Environmental scientists Rory Vose and Barry Drazkowski will present a program entitled "The Upper Mississippi Basin Stewardship Initiative" in the May Murray Education Center of the Winona County Historical Society at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday September 20, 2000. This program is of significance to those concerned about agriculture, conservation and the environment. It will also be informative for those interested in public policy because it addresses issues raised in the Upper Mississippi River Conservation Act that is currently under discussion in the House of Representatives. Rory Vose is former director of Resource Studies Center. A professor of environmental biology at Saint Mary�s for 30 years, Vose is an ecologist with interest in land use and planning issues, the Mississippi River, and photointerpretation. He founded both the original Environmental Studies Center and the new Resource Studies Center Barry Drazkowski is director of Resource Studies Center. He has worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Geological Survey, where he served as Deputy Director of the Environmental Management Technical Center (now Upper Mississippi Environmental Sciences Center), one of the largest GIS/spatial data facilities in the country. The Resource Studies Center (RSC) provides consulting and contracting in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to a wide variety of public and private entities. The RSC is a semi-independent arm of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The RSC has an excellent web site at http://rac.smumn.edu/rsc.
