Archives
Have you all been following the discussion in the Daily News
about Winona not being a friendly city? I have now heard this enough from
newcomers who have moved around a lot to believe it is not just the
individual, but the citizens' problem. In fact, there was an interesting
article in Mpls paperTribune last week about this being a statewide problem.
The writer attributed it to the fact that so many Minnesotans stay put for
their lifetime and don't need to reach out for new friends.
I have felt for some time (about the eight
years since I have returned to Winona) that we need to reinstitute a Newcomers
Club. I understand there was a very active one in the 70's (?) sponsored
by a civic organization (the Chamber of Commerce, JC's, or the like). How
can we do this? What organization would be willing to take it on?
I feel we really really need
newcomers in Winona if we are to remain viable. I believe" tourists" is not a
bad word either.r ---- Original Message -----

[Winona Online Democracy]
On line Democracy
Group,
It seemed that there were many good discussions going
regarding the digital
divide, education support in Winona, traffic,
paying for
infrastructure, etc. If you've deleted these messages and
want to refresh
yourself on some of the issues mentioned, you can go to
our archives.

Also,
we need an hour of your time at the Business and Technology Expo
2000
which is to be held next Saturday Oct 14 and WSU Gymn.
The
Winona Daily News and Chamber of Commerce have graciously given
us
free space at the Expo to promote ONLINE DEMOCRACY. Steve
Kranz has
agreed to coordinate our booth there, but it would be great to
have others
of us staff the booth along with him. Our
objective is to answer
questions, show visitors the site, and recruit
more people for the forum.
We will have an online computer and brochures
available.
Could you sign up for one of the hours listed below?
It might make it best
to pick a couple hours that could work for you as
we try to develop a
schedule. I'll get back to you as quickly as
possible.
(3 hours have been selected so
far)
