Bill,  you'r ecorrect and dead wrong simultaniously.

You are correct in saying Steve Speers is not WSU athletic director. According to the WSU website <http://www.winona.msus.edu/wsusportsinfo/department/staffbody.htm>  Larry Holstad has that honor.  The Winona Daily News never claimed Speers was the athletic director.

However, the Winona Daily News did not "screw up their facts " as you claim. In his story  (read it at http://www.winonadailynews.com/local_news/20001029_3.html), WDN reporter Jeff Dankert  identifies Speers as"director of athletic development" at WSU. The university  also lists Speer as heading  "Athletic Development & Promotions" ( at <http://www.winona.msus.edu/wsusportsinfo/department/staffbody.htm> and at http://www.winona.msus.edu/publicinformation/aug24.htm - Winona Realtors Team Up for a Great Cause) and as the quarterback coach for the university football team (at http://www.winona.msus.edu/wsusportsinfo/football/football_coaches.htm).

I hope this clarifies the issue for all involved.

Dear Winona,
Your local paper has screwed up their facts. Speers is not the athletic director of WSU. Let me just list a few of the other mistakes the daily snooze made this week.
A headline read "Warriors need to shut down Sawyer" Wait isn't he the coach?
The final score of the World Series game was 4-4. Wow, a tie, and the yankees still won.
In a recent article, "Gore is comming to Minnesota" Nice!

Don't always believe what you read, especially if it's from the daily news
