Jolene and all readers:

To the best of my knowledge, the county auditor and the city clerk work to train election judges.  I served for several years and the training was good.  I know they are often short because the political parties are to come up with election judges in each precinct.  If they don't have enough in one precinct,  and more in another,  the judge may serve in a precinct other than the one in which he votes, I believe.  Finding the election judges when everyone is working is part of the problem.  I think if you want to volunteer, the county auditor or your precinct chair would be good contacts.

Does anyone know if all ballots in MN are universally designed or do counties have some choice about format??

Subject: [Winona] Ballots and election judges

I, too, have been following the dialogue about the election, electoral college, etc with interest.  It seems to me, that as I read about how the electoral college came to be that it is a good process.  I don't think that it should be tinkered with.

I do believe however, that more uniformity needs to be found in the election process.  This would include better use of technology, very simple and clear ballots (maybe standardized nationally) and better training of election judges.  When coupled with more consistent information being available as to where to vote we should be able to assure the voter and the candidates of a democratic process.

It is true that there will always be someone who 'doesn't get it' no matter what is done but it is clear that much improvement is possible.

I think we can start right here at home by being sure that every voting place in our area is set up with helpful people, clear process and then lobby our state and national legislators to work at their levels for the same thing.

Who is in charge of training our election judges, getting information out etc.  I know that the judges at my polling place said they were short of people for judges.  I plan to get involved.  How about the rest of you?  Will you help too?
