[Winona Online Democracy]

I would like to see some comments regarding the story in the Winona
Daily News (1/2/01) about whether the Winona City Council should revoke
or suspend the rental license for Winona landlord Wayne Craig. Mr. Craig
said, "I seem to feel that it is ridiculous for a law to be passed
making a landlord responsible for the actions of normal people, in
normal situations in settings that are normal in the society."

We can argue the normal part of his statement but I dont think it is
relevant.

If the penalty for loud parties isnt enough to discourage them, I would
suggest that the law or enforcement isnt tough enough. Judge Peterson
can enlighten us as to how much discretion the City Council has in
setting fines and punishment for crimes.

Should we also start making landlords responsible for enforcing school
truancy laws?
