Dwayne, a student of yours, Amber, recently had a letter published in the WDN (3/12/01). I think it is safe to say we are all concerned about school safety.  The part of Amber's letter that really caught my eye was the following. For years, the first thing that comes to my mind for months after one of these many shootings happens is: Will today be the day that someone brings a gun to our school.

Dwayne, please tell your kids that their behavior and judgment will be the greatest factor in determining their life expectancy. For the next several years, cars, drugs and alcohol will far and away be the greatest threat to their well-being. Too many of our kids have been injured and killed in car accidents. None by school violence.

I'm sure the recent shootings would be part of a gun control discussion but help the kids keep things in perspective.

Keep up the good work.
