I guess I'll have to balance Gene Thiele's cancellation of his United Way
donation by reinstating mine. I had earlier in the year withdrawn my United
Way contribution because of this same issue. I didn't want to be
contributing, however indirectly, to an organization that stubbornly sticks
with a homophobic agenda, especially when that agenda is communicated to
impressionable young participants in scouting programs.
I'm sure this was a difficult decision for the United Way board, and I
applaud their willingness to act on the basis of strong values in the areas
of non-discrimination and inclusiveness.
