[Winona Online Democracy]
Paul,
I read the ad you are talking about and I don't think it's an attack ad at
all. Senator Kierlin has been appointed to the Higher Education Finance
committee. These 10 Legislators will be working out a compromise on an
omnibus spending bill. The house version calls for an all out raid on the
tobacco prevention endowment (as the ad states) and will cripple the state's
ability to prevent youth smoking. The senate version does not raid the
endowment. Senator Kierlin has the ability to help work out a solution, and
preserve this money for youth prevention. If the money can stay in youth
prevention, a lot of cancer (and heart disease) can be avoided. Every word
of the ad is true, and it is calling for the public and Senator Kierlin to
take action. It does not in any way attack Mr. Kierlin, nor does it accuse
him of anything. It is simply asking him to think about tobacco addiction
and its health repercussions.
