I appreciate this characteristic of Winona as well.
I wonder what it is about ducks that cause this. Turtles
still have trouble and then there is all that mammalian road kill.
Maybe we need to have the human pedestrians in crosswalks
eating popcorn off the street so that they may also be safe from speeding
vehicles. If the popcorn is there, maybe the ducks can escort the people
across like little winged, waddling scouts.

Subject: [Winona] Only in
Winona..........
Today, as the traffic was
getting heavy on highway 43 over the bridge, a pair of ducks decided to
venture into the intersection of 4th and Winona St. at the foot of the
bridge. Amazingly, the drivers slowed and steered around the pair,
as they were picking at the grains on the street. It was
a rather humorous sight, but the traffic was backing up two blocks.
I was able to chase the ducks off the intersection and the flew off
under the bridge A teenage male yelled "thank you" out of a car window to
me. Instances like this make me appreciate Winona.
I don't think the ducks would have standed a chance in most places,
but people here still have basic compassion.
