[Winona Online Democracy]

There seems to be just a little sensitivity about the old middle school
building. I am looking at it as simply an opportunity to have the
community make a decision if they want to use it for the arts or not. For
that matter, to decide if it can be used for any purpose. We are not going
into this venture naively. We are talking to all of the players involved,
especially MetroPlains. We have joined the League of Historic American
Theaters, whose specialty is renovation of old theatre spaces. This is not
an emotional approach to an old building, it is a business approach to
finding additional venues for the arts in Winona and the surrounding area.

However, I do enjoy reading all of the comments about the effort. I want
to thank you all for your interest in the building and the effort. I hope
that means that we can all work together to turn this into a very positive
effort for Winona.
