Location: Washington, DC

Performs the mission critical complex Web User Interface software design,
development, enhancement, improvement, and maintenance support for AARP.org
applications. Ensures the 24 X 7 availability of AARP.Org and all site
Channels: Membership Products and Services, Media Properties, TV, Radio,
ATM, Bulletin, Segunda Juventud, etc are 100% available to achieve AARP
dashboard goals for Membership Registration, Member Value and enhanced
Member Experience. Participates as active team contributor of team to
provide design, development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of
Web UI for custom Web Applications and Social Networking software systems
and related system interfaces. Ensures that all issues are resolved to meet
client expectations.

Serves as a part of an Agile web/Java/CMS development team to provide new
services (enhancements, features, etc) for AARP.org.

1. Develops, tests, and implements internet applications using enterprise
approved technologies to ensure high performance and security in production
environment.
2. Provides best practice guidance to colleagues and clients during web
project discovery and strategy phase to ensure applications developed will
be cross-browser compatible and standards compliant, high performing,
stable, secure, scalable, and maintainable.
3. Provides off hours on-call support for production systems on a rotating
basis.
4. Demonstrates WORLD CLASS cultural attributes and behaviors in all
interactions

*Skill Set Description:

Required: Extensive experience with UI/Browser development technologies
including XHTML, custom object oriented Javascript and use of JS frameworks
(jQuery), CSS, AJAX, XSLT, integration and customization of Widgets and
other Javascript/Browser based applications (including Pluck or similar
Social Network), etc.

Requires ability to work in Agile/SCRUM environment to work hand-in-hand
with product managers, designers, and developers to interpret and implement
their goals into a functional web app. Must be able to successfully estimate
level of effort, often with limited upfront input, and consistently deliver
within those estimates.

*Must have experience integrating UI code into Java Application code and CMS
systems.

4-6 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and
experience related to the duties of the position.

Requires extensive knowledge and experience with Internet applications and
protocols;

Requires basic understanding of application development
techniques/capabilities within Java, JSP, JBoss, Content Management Systems
(CMS, such as Day Communique), Linux OS environment, along with Linux file
management and source code management tools such as Subversion (SVN);

Not required, but additional supplementary experience with Java/J2EE
development, knowledge of styling and developing UI Components within CMS
(Day Communique), SQL and database engineering, software integration, and
multi-tier applications architecture, understanding of* TCP/IP networking
principles, would be a bonus.

Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities.
Experience building and/or expanding new technical capabilities/functions.
Solid understanding of emerging technologies and enterprise systems (content
management systems, personalization software, etc.).
Ability to support team, while being an advocate for clients and members.
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information into
actionable insights.
