DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The Messaging Engineer works at the highest systems level to provide advice
and direction to users, management and EIT project teams for

systems and problems that are complex in nature. Evaluates new technologies
and develops departmental standard practices. The candidate

is able to engineer platform upgrades and large scale system integrations.

Has the ability to demonstrate breadth of knowledge across multiple areas
of information technology. The candidate may be a key team member on

strategic or enterprise-wide technology projects or issues.



GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Messaging Engineer will be primarily responsible for the build and
administration of the Cardinal Health Messaging Services infrastructure.

This includes information architecture planning, maintenance,
documentation, and working with end users. The candidate is able to

engineer application upgrades and small-to-medium scale systems
integrations.

The candidate will participate in Messaging-related activities which
include but are not limited to: Build and administration of Messaging

Infrastructure Systems (Microsoft Exchange 2010, Exchange 2003, Cisco
IronPort, Microsoft Lync Server 1010, Blackberry Enterprise Server,

RightFax and other software applications and appliances that are used to
support our messaging infrastructure), escalation resolution, system

monitoring, and training of support teams. The Engineer is recognized as a
leader within the team and department. He or she has the ability to

demonstrate breadth of knowledge of the Messaging Services environment and
other technologies that our systems rely upon to operate. The candidate
will be actively involved with multiple technology projects or issues.

• Implementation and support of a highly available Messaging environment.
Products in scope include Microsoft Exchange, Cisco IronPort, Microsoft

Lync, Blackberry Enterprise Server, and OpenText RightFax.

• Implementation and support of email security and hygiene technology:
Email Anti-virus, Spam Filtering, Data Loss Prevention and Email Encryption

• Implementation and support of email compliance

• Implementation and support of Unified Messaging.

• Work closely with Windows Server team to maintain base build and
Operating System tuning

• Work closely with Directory Services team to build and maintain
application security

• Work closely with Desktop Engineering team to maintain Outlook and Lync
standardization and management

• Work closely with Voice Engineering team to integrate messaging platform
with telephony

• Work with Risk Management to address vulnerabilities and find the
appropriate fixes

• Ensure that any previous documentation is updated with new changes and
provide documentation for all new processes and procedures that can

    assist other team members in maintaining the infrastructure

• Update problem tickets in a timely manner (creating, researching,
referring, closing)

• Coach and share knowledge with peers and counterparts

• Collaborate with other support teams on troubleshooting and resolving
issues

• Patching and off-hours maintenance and change control execution

• Follow all documented processes and procedures

• Provide day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting knowledgebase of
the infrastructure

• Participate in Tier III on-call rotation (24x7)

• Provide Tier III support as a subject matter expert for various
technologies supported by Messaging Services

• Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring for global tiered support
personnel

• Document Processes for end user FAQ’s



Education or Equivalent:

Four year degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information
Systems and/or 4 years equivalent experience

Specific skills required to successfully support a Global Windows Exchange
2007 Shared Services Organization:

• 3-4 years of experience with enterprise Messaging technologies (Microsoft
Exchange 2003/2007/2010, Windows 2003/2008 Server, Windows

2003/2008 Active Directory.

• 3+ years of experience with Mobile Messaging technologies (Blackberry
Enterprise Server, Exchange ActiveSync).

• 3+ years of experience with Unified Messaging.

• 2+ years of experience with Enterprise Fax solutions (OpenText Rightfax).

• 2+ years of experience with Security software (Trend Micro, Symantec,
Forefront), Backup Software (Veritas BackupExec and NetBackup)

• 2+ years of experience with email security appliances (IronPort,
Celestix).

• 2+ years of experience with monitoring solutions ( Microsoft Operations
Manager 2005, IBM Tivoli)

• 2+ years of Merger & Acquisition experience

• 1+ years of experience with Firewall solutions such as PIX and Microsoft
ISA

• Understanding of networking, infrastructure and client side
architectures, software lifecycle, and system design

• Knowledge and experience with SAN technology and storage design.

• Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Exchange Clustering

• Knowledge and experience with email archiving and compliance.

• Knowledge and experience with SMTP, TLS, MAPI, IMAP, POP3

• Proficient with PowerShell and other scripting skills used to automate
messaging processes and reporting.

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft operating platforms and Office
applications (including Visio & Project).

• Proficient with TCP/IP and IT related applications such as WINS,
DNS,TELNET, NLB.

• Knowledgeable of Change Management processes.

• Excellent research and troubleshooting skills

• Technical documentation skills

• Client Training Skills



Additional Beneficial Skills:

• Windows 2000, XP, and 7 (Applications and Utilities).

• General understanding of server hardware platforms (HP Proliant,VMWare)

• General understanding of database technologies (MS SQL, HP PolyServe)

• General understanding of networking technology

• Experience with Office 365 migration and administration

• Experience with other messaging systems such as Lotus Notes is helpful.



Broad skills required to successfully support a Shared Services
Organization:

• Knowledge and experience with relevant networking specifications,
including but not limited to TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, Telnet, etc.

• Knowledge and experience of monitoring solutions such as Microsoft SCOM
or IBM Tivoli.

• Strong troubleshooting mindset (event log parsing, dump analysis)

• Practical experience coding in Visual Basic and/or Visual Basic Scripting
Knowledge of Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI), ActiveX Data

Objects (ADO), Collaboration Data Objects (CDO), Windows Management
Instrumentation (WMI), Active Server Pages (ASP).

• Industry certifications such as MCSE, MCTS-M, MCPIT-M, CCNA are not
required but highly preferred.

Work Environment:

• Must be able to travel to domestic and international sites and possess
valid passport.

• Must be able to work in a 24x7 environment; this includes nights and
weekends. On-call & overtime required.
• Must be able to work closely with resources required for a project,
ensuring adequate resources are available to meet customer’s expectations.
