Since this seems to be a popular deviation from the write-up I asked the
creator of the bloodline what he thought of it. Here is what he said:

"The biggest problem I can see with a character like that lies with the rest
of the family. They know him, were probably preparing for him to join the
bloodline, and then (to their minds) he turned traitor. At the very least he
should have to deal with 'proper' Sangiovanni spitting on him and calling
him unprintable names. He was born among the best, but told them to go to
hell when some stranger made him a better offer. Individual Sangiovanni
might feel motivated to eliminate someone like that, though I can't imagine
the bloodline as a whole engaging in anything so grandiose as hunts and
purges.

I'd question the player's motivation in wanting to play this character.
Mortals in the Sangiovanni family are supposed to be raised from birth to
*want* to join the bloodline. I don't want to say they're brainwashed, but
that ranks among the values instilled in them from a young age. As a
storyteller, I'd ask the player what in his character's backstory justifies
going against everything he has 'known' to be true from early childhood."

I fully support this statement. Not everybody in the family gets Embraced.
Only those who have real potential as Sangiovanni get selected.
