One note on this: I also inadvertently upgraded the Xerces-C dep that this code
originally had from the 2.x API to Xerces-C++ version 3.1. Since this upgrade
was hidden away in the underlying implementation of the testMetadata.cpp test
case, I think we're still OK. Just wanted to note.
