Well, I'm not sure for your board, but it is very likely that you will have to develop a driver that will be responsible of fetching the data from your ADC/DAC. If you are running Linux on your board, check "Linux Device Drivers" by Rubini et. al. It is a freely downloadable open-book that is a must-have for people developing device drivers under Linux. Media library assumes you have a driver in your system. Since, it is written in ANSI C, it will easily cross-compile, don't worry about that.
