Ross, It is not clear what is thought to be inappropriate.
The lists are definitely hosted at OO.o using particular mailing-list software (SYMPA) and a variety of interfaces, including a very nice one for casual users that allows one-stop shopping and list management for anyone having registered an ID with OO.o. It is not clear that the means of adding messages to posts is within our power, and it might not be great on those many lists that are used by people for whom English is not understood easily, if at all. It has been pointed out to me (offlist) that it might be inappropriate to do this. I would therefore like to clarify something. My suggestion to actively recruit from other communities was made with the assumption that the infrastructure these groups are using is part of the old OO.o infrastructure (i.e. their lists are [email protected]) and therefore will be going away soon. If this assumption is incorrect then it would probably be somewhat disrespectful of that community (and others) to actively recruit in this way.
