Indeed, if the aim is to compare AOO 3.4 to OOo 3.3, then we must keep into account "the release that never was", i.e., the many new features that were already present in OOo 3.4 beta (and in general, code up to m106) and that were merged into derivative products several months ago, but that fully belong to the OOo development.
The pre-"OOo 3.4 beta" improvements include the slide sorter and many other changes developed before Apache, the post-"OOo 3.4 beta" improvements are the ones people are focusing on in this discussion, but indeed a loyal OOo 3.3 user would notice both families of improvements.
The release notes being prepared at at http://s.apache.org/LVp respect this distinction and should be used as source for the current discussion (if something mentioned here is missing there, it should definitely be added to the wiki page).
