Often times you will see TLP's issue an Out-Of-Band report for notifying the board of any exceptional events in the project.
I'd like to suggest that we do something similar here regarding the "patch release" we issued recently which was a rather exceptional circumstance in many respects. The report need not be comprehensive, just a brief heads up telling people about the particulars would be appreciated. Thoughts?
