Updating dictionaries from the Extensions site to their latest version should probably be (or become) part of the standard pre-release actions, like updating localizations: it is a low-risk fix that fits with the concept of "maintenance releases".

Unfortunately, we haven't done that step for 3.4.1 yet. And I know final builds are starting soon, so we have little time (if any!).

An infrastructure fix that must be integrated for this is
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119229#c9
I verified it yesterday and I can commit it to AOO34 from my working copy. This will enable us to update dictionaries safely and will bring the Spanish dictionary up-to-date (due to this bug, we shipped an older version with 3.4.0).

Then I also have an updated Italian dictionary available, and possibly there are more; I could volunteer to look at the Extensions site and download the latest versions, but this depends on how much time we have.

Regards,
  Andrea.
