Bug #: 119299
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Enhancement: Middle mouse button to click and drag
viewport
Classification: Application
Product: Spreadsheet
Version: OOo 3.3
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: viewing
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
Feature request to implement dragging the viewport with middle mouse button.
There is a current behaviour possible with middle mouse button that allows
'Automatic scrolling', however this request is for an inversion of that, where
the mouse button click+hold locks to an area of the viewport and moves with the
mouse movement.
Easiest analogy is Google Maps or Google Earth, where the user can grab the
screen and drag it around using <primary> mouse button. Obviously the primary
mouse button is not appropriate for AOO, so middle mouse button is next best.
Alternatively a modifier plus primary mouse button.
Users of various desktop GIS and earth modelling software are very familiar
with this behaviour, and I have used 3 different applications that implement it
in slightly different ways.
I think this behaviour is preferable to the existing 'automatic scrolling',
which suffers from a lack of usability - i.e., it's very difficult to control
the speed and acceleration of screen scrolling.
Reported this to Spreadsheet only, not sure if it's all that useful to other
products.
