I used a Windows 7 PC to test this bug. With the attachment (PDFbug.odt), I tried exporting the document in Adobe Garamond Pro font from Open Office Writer to PDF file. Then, I opened the PDF file using Adobe Reader X and the PDF file is readable. I also exported the document in Times New Roman font to PDF file, and then attached it in a Gmail message.
