It seems like it should be a common operation for deleting lines,
but I can't seem to find it.

<some easy kb shortcut> to select a line
<ctrl>- to delete the selected line

The easy shortcut is Shift+Space for a row and Ctrl+Space for a column.
Tools>Customize>Keyboard displays all set shortcuts and lets you define
your own for the current document or for the entire component.
