Yes. At the very least, it is more secure and faster.

Uninstall 3.3, then restart your computer and download and install an old (warning: all of them are insecure) version from http://archive.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/stable/
Any version in the 3.x series (3.0.0 or higher) will open your documents with no problems.
